About Museikon

Museikon is a department of the National Museum of the Union in Alba Iulia, established in 2017 following the implementation of the project 'Museikon. A new museum of the icon revitalises a restored historic monument building in Alba Iulia', funded by the EEA Grants.

Its field of activity centres on the collection of art and old books formed by merging the objects in these categories held by the National Museum of the Union in Alba Iulia with the heritage collection of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Alba Iulia.

The department runs a conservation laboratory for tempera painting on wood and glass, publishes the periodicals 'Museikon' and 'Studies', and hosts thematic and contemporary art exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts and scientific events.

Museikon runs a museum pedagogy programme focused on visual culture and on developing the artistic skills of the younger generation.
